“Work hard, play hard” – the standby phrase meant to indicate one’s dualistic ability to have fun while remaining a responsible, employed member of society – is among the world’s most overused and empty phrases when it comes to online dating profiles, according to Online Personals Watch, the industry’s leading trade publication.  Not far behind: “partner-in-crime”, “as comfortable in stillettos as I am in flip-flops “, “able to kick it at the opera or a dive bar”, and “looking for someone who gets me.” Online Personals Watch president Mark Brooks was surprised at the report. “The interesting thing here is that 76% of the people who wrote ‘work hard play hard’ were actually unemployed,” he said. “It’s strange – I think people just write it without even thinking.” In a separate study, people who claim on their profile to work hard spend up to 3.5 hours each work day on dating sites.
